Garbage Disposal

Garbage disposal repair and installation in Charlotte

Jammed? Humming but not grinding? Leaking into the cabinet? We fix it or install a new one. All brands, same-day in most cases.

The Problem

Is this happening to you?

The disposal hums and nothing happens. Water puddles in the cabinet under the sink. The unit pops the reset button every few minutes. You cannot run the dishwasher without the sink backing up. A dead disposal takes the whole kitchen offline until it is fixed.

Our Process

How we handle it

  1. Diagnose the failure

Jam, burned motor, failed seal, loose mount, or a bad switch. Each has a different fix.

  2. Repair vs. replace

Jams are repairs. Leaks from the motor housing are replacements. We tell you which one you have.

  3. Flat-rate quote

You approve the number. We do not start pulling the unit before you say go.

  4. Repair or swap

Clear the jam, replace seals, or install a new unit with a new mounting assembly and fresh discharge tube.

  5. Test the line

Dishwasher discharge, P-trap, and the branch drain all get checked before we leave.

  6. Clean up

Old unit bagged, cabinet wiped down, no food debris on the floor. It looks like nothing happened.

  • Safe unjams
We have the right wrench and the knowledge to do it right. No one is sticking their hand in the chamber.
  • We check the drain too
Half the time a dead disposal is actually a clogged branch line. We check the whole kitchen drain path while we are in there.
  • Honest repair vs. replace
If the unit has two more years in it, we will say so. If the motor is toast, we will tell you that too.

Questions, Answered

Frequently asked questions

My disposal just hums. What is wrong?
It is jammed. Something is wedged between the flywheel and the grind chamber, often a seed, bone chip, or small utensil. Never put your hand in there. We unjam it safely, reset it, and get you running again.
Why is my disposal leaking?
Three common spots: the sink flange at the top, the dishwasher inlet on the side, or the bottom of the motor housing. A bottom leak means the seals have failed and the disposal needs replacement. The other two are often repairable.
How long do garbage disposals last?
Eight to 15 years for quality units with normal use. Cheap builder-grade units often fail in four to six years, especially in rentals.
What brand of disposal should I get?
InSinkErator is the workhorse. Waste King is a good value with a faster grind. We avoid the lowest-cost disposals because they end up being a replacement every four years.
Can you install a disposal I bought?
Yes. We install customer-supplied disposals. We will swap the mounting assembly to match the new unit if needed.
My disposal smells. How do I fix that?
Run cold water, feed it a handful of ice cubes with some lemon rind or a splash of vinegar, and let it grind. Repeat weekly. If the smell is coming from the sink, the trap below the disposal may be the culprit.
